SOUR DOUGH BREAD

SOUR DOUGH BREAD

First you have to make the starter and let it set for 3 days:
STARTER RECIPE:
1 C. Flour
1 tbsp. sugar
1 C. Water
Mix all together in a bowl and cover.
  Let stand in warm place  for 2 - 3 days or until fermented.
(I use a small bowl with a cover such as Rubbermaid/Tupperware)

BREAD RECIPE:
1 1/2 C. Warm water
1 pkg. or cake yeast
6 C. unsifted all purpose flour
1/2 tsp. soda
1 C. Sour Dough Starter
2 tsp. salt
2 tsp. sugar
Pour water into large mixing bowl.  Sprinkle years over water.
Stir until dissolved.  Add sour dough starter, 4 cups flour, salt and sugar.
Stir vigorously for 3 minutes.  Place in large greased bowl; cover with towel.
Let rise in warm place for about 2 hours or until doubled in bulk.
Mix soda with 1 cup of flour ; stir into dough.
Turn out onto floured board; knead in remaining 1 cup flour.
More flour may be added if necessary. 
  Knead until dough is smooth and not sticky. 
Shape it into large round loaf or 2 oblong loaves. 
Place on lightly greased cookie sheet or loaf pans.
Cover; let rise in warm place until nearly double in bulk.
Brush surface with water; score or slash top diagonally with sharp knife
Place shallow pan of hot water into bottom of oven
Bake bead in preheated 400 degree oven for 45 to 50 minutes or until done.

This recipe is great for making cinnamon rolls too!
